We know, and we hear this continually. Everyday our office receives many calls from individuals just like you that tell us their CPAP story.
The CPAP machine has traditionally been the “gold-standard” of sleep apnea care. It works to keep a continuous airway during sleep. However, many, many of our patients find they feel confined, restricted and claustrophobic. We’ve heard our patients tell us they wake up to find they took off their mask during the night. They didn’t know, and they are scared to be sleeping untreated.
Oral Appliance Therapy is often the option that non-tolerant CPAP users are looking for! An Oral Appliance fits into your mouth, similar to a retainer, and repositions your jaw to keep your airway open. You can sleep in any position and continue to treat your sleep apnea and snoring.
This is a picture of our Clinical Director and Oral Appliance Advocate, Mary Ellen Hughes, showing off her own Oral Appliance. You can see, first hand, how small the Oral Appliance actually is. And imagine the ease of wearing an Oral Appliance to sleep in.
At Dental Sleep Medicine of Illinois, we love our work. Every day we help our patients get a good nights sleep through Oral Appliance Therapy. It’s wonderful to hear the change our patients feel when they first start sleeping with their Oral Appliance.
